The National Japanese American
Historical Society (NJAHS), based in San Francisco, proposes
to renovate and rehabilitate Building 640 in the Presidio as an
Interpretive Center.
Building 640 is the original site of the Fourth Army Intelligence
School during World War 2. Americans of Japanese ancestry learned
skills in language translation and battlefield interrogation, while
their families remained interned in camps throughout the West.
To
ensure preservation of Building 640 as a symbol of American principles
of democracy, TBA West assisted with a Critical Project Proposal
submittal to the Presidio Trust, Historical Significance Report
and Strategic Plan to secure a lease for the building. |
