Sustainability

As the first New England corporate member of the U.S. Green Building Council, TBA has long provided sustainability planning as well as LEED assessment and design services for schools, offices, public safety, housing, and industrial facilities. We look for opportunities for sustainable improvements in all our projects, as well as provide assessments and recommendations for existing structures.

Our work includes new construction, renovation, and adaptive reuse projects. We have provided envelope and environmental improvements that include energy performance measures for many public and private structures.  These include window, insulation and wall system modifications to the Nantucket Middle and High Schools, the Waltham Engineering Center, several schools for the Cities of Waltham and Newton, as well the historic West Branch Library in Somerville.  TBA designed ‘green roof’ and envelope improvements for the Nantucket Schools and implemented a comprehensive HVAC upgrade program for the City of Cambridge. We also provided envelope modifications and preservation design for the Cambridge Police Headquarters, Holbrook Town Hall, Gardner City Hall, Braintree Town Hall, several buildings for the North Bennet Street School.  Our analysis of the Muzzy Apartments in Lexington, which houses a Senior Center as well as 72 housing units, included envelope, mechanical and electrical performance.

TBA has also completed detailed analyses and design solutions involving energy related considerations for many historic buildings.  Examples include buildings for the National Landmark Mount Auburn Cemetery, and the brick, stone and ornamental iron Quabbin Administration Building and Observation Tower for the for the Division of Conservation and Recreation.
